Common concerns for which parents and caregivers call Help Me Grow:
My 18 month-old daughter had trouble talking. She could only say “Mama” and “Dada.” I called Help Me Grow. They had me complete a developmental screening and then helped me get connected with a speech therapist. My daughter is 26 months now and talking like a champ!
I was able to stay home with my three-year old son when he was a newborn, but recently I had to go back to work. My son did not have an easy time getting used to his new day care and the director told me that the staff was thinking about kicking him out of the program. Not having daycare for my son would have caused me to lose my job. My son’s teacher told me about Help Me Grow. I called Help Me Grow and completed a developmental screening for my son. The Help Me Grow staff helped me find a therapist to work with us on the things that were causing problems at daycare. It’s been a struggle adjusting, but we are getting through day-by-day.
My girl-friend and I were new parents and not sure we were doing the right thing for our baby. We read a few books about how babies learn and grow but didn’t really understand everything in the books. The social worker in the hospital gave us information about Help Me Grow, but we weren’t really sure what they were about. I called the number, they were super nice, and gave us information about where to go for help with parenting. We started new parent classes and feel so much better and less stressed than we did when we brought our baby home!
I was worried that my son might have Autism. He was having a hard time with loud noises and didn’t look at me as often as his big sister did when she was his age. He wasn’t quite two-years old yet so I figured this might be typical stuff, but I called my pediatrician’s office anyway. The nurse listened to my concerns and told me about Help Me Grow and how they help families figure things out. I sent an e-mail and expressed my concerns. The Help Me Grow staff sent me some information and a questionnaire to learn more about my concerns. I filled out the questionnaire and sent it back to Help me Grow. The staff called me back with the results and helped connect us with specialists who did more tests. My son was diagnosed with Autism. I am so thankful that Help Me Grow was able to help me find the right specialist to go for answers. We were able to get help early and, because of that, I’m hopeful we can make progress before he starts kindergarten.
